Church Warden Sings Praises Of Rowley Hall After Knee Operation
Wednesday 12 July 2017
A church warden has been singing the praises of Rowley Hall Hospital after being transformed by life changing knee surgery.
Peter Hughes has undergone a total knee replacement at the Stafford-based private hospital and is delighted with the outcome.
The 77-year-old has complete faith in the hospital and the staff who looked after him during his stay which he has described as ‘wonderful’.
Former PE teacher Peter dislocated his left knee playing football in 1973 but after treatment he suffered no further problems until last year.
After a long drive home from a holiday in September 2016, the following day he woke experiencing pain in his knee.
As the pain intensified, Peter visited his GP before completing a three month period of physiotherapy at a local sports injury clinic.
Although the physio sessions helped to strengthen his knee, the knee cartilage was badly worn and he was still suffering.
He paid another visit to his doctor who referred Peter to knee specialist Mr Ashok Sinha at Rowley Hall who outlined the problem and suggested a total knee replacement.
Peter, of Derrington, said: “I’ve gone over 40 years since I dislocated my knee without any problems, but after driving back from holiday on a stop-start journey I knew the next day that I had a problem.
“I was in a lot of pain and although physio sessions helped to build my knee up, a knee replacement was the way forward.
“I met with Mr Sinha who showed me all my X-Rays and he knew what the problem was.
“I was given an initial date for surgery which was brought forward a month due to a cancellation so I was thrilled about that because it meant the sooner I could have it done the better.”
Mr Sinha is a specialist in knee replacements, complex primary hip replacement surgery, hip resurfacing and revision hip replacement surgery.
Peter spent four days on the ward at Rowley Hall recovering from his operation before returning home.
He has made a good recovery from the surgery and is now able to attend to his church warden duties again at St Matthew’s Church in Derrington.
Peter said: “I’m really pleased to get back to my work at the church because I just couldn’t do things like cutting the grass and tending to graves because my mobility was so bad.
“I’m walking freely again without any aids and I’ve bought an automatic car so I’m comfortable driving too.”
Peter, who is also the Church Secretary, added: “I was really impressed with all the team at Rowley Hall and the excellent treatment I received.
“Although the hospital is local to me, I had not visited it before but it provides a first class service and the consultant Mr Sinha was great.
“I would have no hesitation in choosing the hospital again for any surgery and I would encourage other people.in a similar situation to myself to do the same.”
