Health Practitioner Learns More From Foot and Ankle Expert
Friday 6 April 2018

Local health practitioner Scott Alldrick spent time with an orthopaedic expert at Rowley Hall Hospital to find out more about his work.

Scott shadowed foot, ankle and knee specialist Mr Rob Rees at Rowley Hall Hospital to help streamline referrals to the hospital for this type of surgery.

The Extended Scope Practitioner for the MICATS (Musculoskeletal Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service) team observed Mr Rees during a full afternoon clinic.

Maria Poade (GP Liaison) organised the visit which is one of several shadowing sessions that take place with different consultants throughout the year at the private hospital in Stafford.

MICATS is an integrated service to help diagnose and treat patients with musculoskeletal problems in Staffordshire but when a surgical need is identified, help patients gain access to the correct health professionals.

The team is made up of different specialists including Extended Scope Practitioners in podiatry and physiotherapy, physios and chronic pain management specialists.

Service users who access the MICATS service are given choice to the correct health professional for their needs, and many patients choose Rowley Hall for different orthopaedic procedures.

Scott said: “It was great to spend time at Rowley Hall observing Mr Rees and it was extremely useful in helping myself and the rest of the MICATS team when referring to Rowley Hall.

“As an Extended Scope Practitioner, I picked up some great advice and learning points that I can utilise and feed back to the MICATS team to further improve patient care and ensure smooth pathways.

“I’d like to say a big thank-you to Mr Rees for accommodating me during a busy clinic. Visits like this are invaluable for all the MICATS team.”

Mr Rees is an expert in foot, ankle and knee surgery and has regular clinics for patients at Rowley Hall.

Maria Poade added: “We are pleased that Scott was able to visit Rowley Hall and spend time with Mr Rees learning more about his work and surgeries.

“These educational sessions really help to make the referral process to Rowley Hall and our hospital consultants much smoother and ensure that patients across Staffordshire get to see the correct consultants as and when they need to.”
